"Pevensey Castle" can be found in an anonymous collection by "A Young Lady" entitled “A Collection of Country Dances and Waltzes” (c. 1797, No. 4, p. 6). According to a Ms. note on the Royal Academy of Music Library copy, the composer is Miss Newberry. The hornpipe was also entered in the mid-19th century music manuscript of William Winter[1] (1774-1861), a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset, southwest England.
