FAREWELL [1], THE. Scottish, Slow Strathspey or Marching Air (whole time). E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part (Marshall): AAB (Cranford/Holland). Composed by an elderly William Marshall (1748-1833), of Fochabers, Morayshire; it was his musical farewell to his home of Keithmore, which Marshall left at age 74, having resided there 33 years. It was published posthumously in his A Second Collection of Scottish Melodies (the 1845 Collection). Other tunes with the same title were published earlier by James Aird and John Anderson.
