GORHOFFEDD GWYR HARLECH (The March of the Men of Harlech). AKA and see "Nixon Number Two." Welsh, March (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A famous Welsh tune which first appeared in print in Edward Jones' Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards, 2nd Ed., 1794. Classical composer Franz Jospeh Haydn (1732-1809) composed a setting of the melody in 1803, and William Thomas Best (1826-1897) wrote his "Concert Fantasia on a Welsh March ­'Gorhoffedd Gwyr Harlech'" for pipe organ.
