HICKORY LEAF. Old-Time, Breakdown. D Major. ADad tuning (fiddle). A Fiddlin' Arthur Smith variant of "Bonaparte's Retreat (1)." In the repertoire of Kentucky fiddler Owen "Snake" Chapman (1919-2003). A hickory leaf can be "played" by holding it tightly between the hands, parallel to the lips.
