BETTY M. STRAUGHAN. English, Waltz. England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABBCC. This waltz was composed by Ron Purvis, a farmer born in 1920, near Alnwick, Northumberland. Neil (1991) tells us that Purvis took up the fiddle at age 20, perhaps inspired by his mandolinist mother and from hearing a band playing at school, and has been composing since 1950.

Printed source: Neil (The Scots Fiddle), 1991; No. 46, p. 61.
