Marion Thede transcribed the tune from the playing of Billy Evans (Kiowa County, Oklahoma), who played it in scodatura tuning (ADae). "Across the Sea" was also recorded in 1946 from the playing of John Lusk (fid.), Murph Gribble (ban.) and Alvin York (gtr.) by Library of Congress collector Margaret Mayo, in Campaign, Tennessee.
