AMATEUR [1] HORNPIPE. American(?), Hornpipe (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The composition "Amateur Hornpipe [1]" is credited to one J. Hand in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). There were two 'J. Hands' (Johnny and James) mentioned in the Elias Howe Co. publications who were possibly bandleaders or principal musicians in the greater Boston area. They were perhaps brothers or father/son. "Can be used as a Clog."
