AP SHENKIN. AKA and see "Dear Little Island (The)," "Tempest (1)." Welsh, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABA. There are numerous titles for the tune. The "Ap Shenkin" title comes from Parry ("Bard Alaw") in his book The Welsh Harper (vol. 1, p. 105), with the attribution: "Composed by J. Parry, 1803."

Samuel Bayard collected a version of the tune in southwestern Pennsylvania in the 1930's as an untitled square dance tune in the reportoire of fiddler and singer Samuel Losch (a middle-aged man who had been born in Juniata County).
