BANNISTER'S BUDGET. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. John 'Jack' Bannister (1760-1836) was an actor with a gift for mimicry and low comedy, and was a good amateur painter as well. Commencing in 1807 Bannister staged a monologue entertainment with songs, called Bannister's Budget, which showed his ability to create character types to the best advantage. He retired from the stage in 1815, having gained a solid reputation as one of the era's finest actors. He had saved his money wisely, and lived another two decades in comfort.
