"Barker's Maggot" is a tune with directions for a country dance printed by John Young in London in the Dancing Master 13th through the 18th editions (1706-1728). The dance and tune were also printed by rival London music publisher John Walsh in his The Compleat Country Dancing Master, editions of 1718, 1731 and 1754.
A 'maggot' was another name for a trifle, whim, plaything, fancy, etc., from the Italian maggioletta, also translated as "May Piece". See also the related "New Stepny" and "Show Me the Way to Wallington (2)."
