BELLE ÉPOQUE, LA. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB': AA'AA"BB' (Demers). "La Belle époque" was composed by diatonic accordion maker and accordionist Marcel Messervier (born 1934, Montmagny) as a kind of homage to his father, Joseph, also an accordion player. Marcel constructed his first accordion at the age of eight for a school exam, building a small (8 x 4) box out of cardboard (for the bellows) and a couple of steel strips caged from his father. His mature accordions are much prized instruments.
