The tune bears melodic and harmonic resemblance to "Nowella Ballandoise (La)" in Alexander McGlashan's Collection of Scots Measures (1781, p. 26), although the two tunes are set in different meter. The tune is identical in the first strain to "Suze (La)" printed in Neil Stewart's A Select Collection of Scots, English, Irish and Foreign Airs (1788), and similar to the second strain, especially in the opening measures.
