"Bellingham Hiring" is a reel entered into the John Hall music manuscript collection (1833). Nothing is known about Hall, but some of the titles in the ms. suggest he was from West Northumberland, where Bellingham is located. Hall may also have been a wind player, posits researcher and Northumbrian piper Matt Seattle, as the settings do not appear to be for the fiddle.
Bellingham is a principal town of West Northumberland, situated on the North Tyne. There was a hiring fair for servants at Bellingham, Spring and Fall, on the Wednesday before Good Friday and the First Saturday after the 15th of September.
