BLACK'S HORNPIPE [5]. English, Triple Hornpipe (3/2 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR. "Black's Hornpipe [5]" was published in London by Henry Playford for Thomas Marsden in the latter's Original Lancashire Hornpipes, Old and New (1705), where it appears as an untitled hornpipe (No. 7). Offord titled it "Black's Hornpipe," noting it was a setting of "Black's Hornpipe (4)" (line 'F' of Marsden's piece corresponds quite closely with the opening line of Wright's "Black's Hornpipe (5)"). See also the related "Edinburgh Castle (1)."
