BLACK DIAMOND WALTZ. American, Waltz. USA, southwestern Pa. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. It is possible that the waltz was titled after the Lehigh Valley Railroad's flagship passenger train from New York to Buffalo called the Black Diamond. The Lehigh Valley Railroad's primary function was to serve the coal fields of northeastern Pennsylvania, but maintained this passenger line for many years, despite stiff competition.
