BLUE BONNETS OVER THE BORDER [2]. AKA and see "Scots Bonnet." Scottish, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBC. Nathaniel Gow (1766–1831) remarked that the tune was "Old" in his 1809 collection. He was perhaps referring to the cognate version published under the title "Scots Bonnet" in Edinburgh in 1757 by Robert Bremner. See also the melody adapted as a song air in "Down Among the Banks of Roses."
