BRAMPTON REEL. English, Reel (cut time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was entered into the 1838 music manuscript collection of Lake District musician William Irwin (1822-1889). Brampton is a small market town, civil parish and electoral ward within the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England. A version of Irwin's tune was entered into the c. 1858 music manuscript collection of East Anglia musician William Clarke as tune No. 139 (the title is difficult to make out but may be "A Prince(?) Reel"). Clarke was probably a flute player, judging from the keys his tunes were set in.
