BRIG OF TILT, THE. Scottish, Reel (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Hunter, Lowe, Stewart-Robertson): AABB'. The Bridge of Tilt, or Old Bridge of Tilt, is a village on the River Tilt, near Blair Athole in Perthshire. The main road along Glen Garry crossed the river on a bridge there until 1823, when a new bridge was constructed by engineer John Mitchell (an associate of Thomas Telford) along a new road down the Glen. There is a famous old hotel there dating from 1840, expanded upon a former hunting lodge.
