BUACHAILLÍN BUÍ, AN (The Yellow Little Boy). Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCD (Breathnach): AABB (O'Neill). The tune is a member of the family of tunes that make up the four-part session warhorse "Lark in the Morning (1)," and is close to (but not identical with) "Goats' Horns (The)." See also other members of the family "Come in the Evening," "Galloway Tom (2)," "Galway Tom (1)," "Galway Town," "Kelso Races," "One-Legged Man (The)," "Spotted Cow (The)," "Thrush's Nest (The)," "Welcome (The)," "Western Lilt (A)," and "Yellow Little Boy (The)." Breathnach states he took the name from the version published by piper O'Farrell in Collection of National Irish Music for the Union Pipes (c. 1797) where it can be found as "Galloway Tom" with the alernate mangled Irish title "The Boughleen Bue," and finds two more versions by O'Farrell in the latter's Pocket Companion.
