BURRAVOE RATTLER, THE. AKA and see "St. Anne's Reel." Scottish, Reel (cut time). Scotland, Shetland Isles. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. "The Burravoe Rattler" was the name for the reel in the repertory of fiddler Peter Scollay (1922-2000) of Burravoe, Yell, Shetland. It is a fairly faithful version of what was originally the Québec tune St. Anne's Reel", now widespread. One supposes that Mr. Scollay did not have a name for the tune, so called it after his home place in Burravoe. It is somewhat surprising to find the reel already in the repertory of a Shetland fiddler in the mid-1950's.
