Sheet Music for "But and Ben"But and BenStrathspeyBook: Kerr - Merry Melodies vol. 4 (c. 1880's, No. 52, p. 8)Transcription: AK/Fiddler's Companion

BUT AND BEN. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The title may come from the tunes association with the rhymes of "But the House and Ben the House," which refers to the 'outer' and 'inner' portions of the house, or the servants' and family quarters in rural habitations in early days [William White, Notes and Queries No. 54, 1876].

But your house and ben your house
This house is like a bridal house.
