CALE SMITH'S PASTIME. AKA and see "Fair and Forty," "Seven Up." American, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Caoimhin Mac Aoidh remarks that the tune is well known in County Donegal, Ireland, under the alternate title ("Fair and Forty" by which title it appears in several of O'Neill's publications). Massachusetts fiddler Frank Ferrel notes the tune was a favorite of Cape Breton fiddler Joe Cormier. Ferrel and J.P. Cormier played it at Joe's memorial service.
