CALLAM'S FROLICS. Scottish, Air or Slow Strathspey (4/4 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Gow, O'Neill): AABB' (Howe). The tune ("Callam's Frollock") appears in Malcolm McDonald's Second Collection (1789, reprinted in 1797), dedicated to the Earl of Breadalbane. MacDonald printed it without composer credit, although the Gows' attributed authorship to Nathaniel Gow. MacDonald was Niel Gow's bass player at about the time the tune was published, and Emmerson (1971) believes the tune was only heard by him played by one of the Gows, not composed by him, but appropriated.
