CASTELL ABERYSTWYTH (Aberystwyth Castle). Welsh, Country Dance Tune (4/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by John Parry (Bardd Alaw), the composer of "Cader Idris" and other airs. The name Aberystwyth comes from the Welsh or Brittonic prefix 'Aber-' or mouth- and the Welsh river name Ystwith, meaning winding, for 'mouth of the winding river' (Matthews, 1972). The castle is located in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Mid Wales, and was built during the First Welsh War in the late 13th century by Edward I in his first campaign to pacify the western land.
