Castle Donovan [1], a tower-house dating to the 16th century, is in west County Cork near Drimoleague. Francis O'Neill's grandfather lived not far from there and kept open house for the "wandering minstrels of his time" (O'Neill, Irish Folk Music: A Fascinating Hobby, p. 12).
