CATHOLIC BOYS [3], THE. AKA and see "Billy Patterson," "Boys of Bockhill/Boys of Rockhill," "Blackthorn Stick (1)," "Coachroad to Sligo (The)," "Eagle's Nest (The)," "Fire on the Mountain (2)," "Fire on the Mountains (2)" (floating title), "Fire in the Valley," "Geese on the Bog" (floating title), "Hare on the Mountain (The)," "Humors of Bantry," "Maid on the Green (The)," "Maiden on the Green (The)," "Rose on the Mountain (1) (The)." Irish (originally), American; Jig (6/8 time). USA, southwestern Pa. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Bayard (1981) calls it a typical Irish jig, of no great age. His southwestern Pennsylvania tune goes by a variety of titles, with the name "Catholic Boys" probably simply a mistake in memory by his source, Hiram Horner. Other than with Horner, the name "Catholic Boys" for the tune does not have currency in the tradition and is assumed to be an idiosyncracy of the source.
