Composed by Robert Lowe and published in his brother Joseph Lowe's Collection of Reels, Strathspeys and Jigs, Book 4 (1844-5). Catterthun is a hill in Forfar, Scotland, upon which are ancient sites (Brown Catterthun and White Catterthun) dating from the time of the Picts, once thought to be home to Druids.
