CATTLE IN THE CROPS. Canadian, New England; Double Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Canadian fiddler Jim Magill, who was originally from northern Ireland (b. 1902). In the 1930's he moved to Toronto where he worked as a telegrapher for the railroad. A skilled fiddler, he was much in demand for square dances in the region and formed a band called the Northern Ramblers, which broadcast from CFRB from 1946-1954.
