CHARLES STREET WALK. AKA and see âCharles Street Bath.â English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was first published in Charles and Samuel Thompsonâs Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773). As with numerous other tunes from the Thompsonâs 1773 collection, it was entered into the 1788 music copybook of fiddlers John and William Pitt Turner (Norwich, Conn.). Charles Street may refer to the former Lewknerâs Lane, London, re-named Charles Street in Drury Lane. It was notorious as being a âred lightâ district, and a walk along it would probably have been quite interesting.
