COCHECO REEL. American, Reel (2/4 time). USA, New England. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title refers to New Hampshire's Cocheco River, a name derived from the Abenaki wordcochecho believed to mean "rapid foaming water," referring to the river's falls in downtown Dover. Settlers in 1623 adopted the name for the entire river and their settlement, Cochecho Plantation. The river arises in Stafford County and runs for 38 miles southeastward, until it joins the Piscataqua River at the border with Maine.
