The title may refer to Colonel Alexander Robertson (see "annotation:Colonel Robertson of Strewan's Welcome Home" for more), like Gow, from Perthshire. Glasgow musician James Aird printed the tune as "Mr. Robertson of Strowan's Strathspey" in his 1803 collection.
