"The Cuckoo [8]" was entered into the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper, wikipedia:James_Goodman_(musicologist). Goodman researchers Hugh and Lisa Shields[1] find the melody used for a song in J.T. Surenne's (1814-1878) Songs of Ireland without words (1854, p. 49).
