"Darnway Castle" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and published in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. (1820-21). wikipedia:Darnaway_Castle is the seat of the Earls of Moray, located in Darnaway Forest, 3 miles southwest of Forres in Moray, Scotland. The castle dates from 1450 when it was built by Archibald Douglas, Earl of Moray, but it was rebuilt in 1810, retaining only the old and spacious banqueting hall. Darnaway is also known as Tarnaway Castle, an anglicisation of the Gaelic form Taranaich, which itself conserves an early Brittonic form, Taranumagos, derived from the elements taranu meaning "thunder" and magos, "a plain".
