DISPATCH, THE. Scottish, Waltz or Slow Jig (6/8 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Ayrshire violinist and dancing master biography:John Hall (1788-1862). While it is noted in 6/8 time, Hall gave the direction it should be played "in Waltz Time." He noted the triple-time tune in 6/8 time rather than the usual 3/8 of early waltzes or 3/4 time of later ones, but the waltz was a fairly new dance form, only introduced to Britain at the end of the first decade of the 19th century, and the custom for waltz notation had probably not consolidated in Hall's region.
