AKA and see "Doug's Favorite," "Ice on the Pumphandle," "Mountain Hornpipe (1) (The)," "Mountains of Kerry (The)," "Reel de St. Alphonse," "Reel Maginot," "Shape's Hornpipe" (Pa.), "Hopple's Tune" (Pa.), "Woody's Hornpipe." American, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cole, White): AB (Bayard). Bayard (1944) identifies this tune as a "quite well known dance air" generally known in published collections as "Douglas Favorite" or "The Mountain Hornpipe." In local Pennsylvania tradition the tune showed considerable variation. In notes to the tune in his 1981 book Bayard thought it "at least a little older than the mid-nineteenth century."
