"The Earl of Moray's Reel" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and published in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. (1820-21). At the time of the issue of Grant's collection the Earl of Moray was Francis Stuart (1771-1848), 10th Earl, owner of the huge family estate that covered much of Morayshire, embracing towns such as Forres. The 10th Earl, however, from 1785 chose to live at Moray House in Edinburgh, situated between Charlotte Square and the Water of Leith.
