EDINBURGH VOLUNTEERS QUICKSTEP. AKA and see "Essex Band (The)." Scottish, March (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. "Edinburgh Volunteers Quickstep" was entered into the mid-19th century music manuscript copybook of flute player William Killey of Jurby, Isle of Man. Killey researcher Ian Radcliffe miss-identifies the tune as "Edinburgh Royal Highland Volunteers Quick Step," composed along with a companion march by John MacGlashan and printed in Edinburgh, who may or may not have been related to the famous Scottish fiddle/composer Alexander "King" MacGlashan (d. 1797). The march can also be found as "Essex Band (The)" in Thomas Calvert's 1799 publication.
