ELEPHANT HOTEL. American, Waltz. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. Composed c. 1980 by fiddler Jay Ungar (West Hurley, N.Y.) inspired by a building in Somers, N.Y. (which considers itself the home of the American circus), dedicated to Barnum and Bailey Circus's first elephant. The beast was named Old Bet and was the purchase of Hachaliah Bailey in 1808, prior to his partnering with P.T. Barnum.
