ENCHANTED WOOD, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Enchanted Wood. or, Harlequin's Vagaries was the name of a pantomime staged in London in 1784. See also the Thompson's companion tune "Harlequin Vagaries." The tune was entered into the the mid-19th century music manuscript of William Winter (1774-1861), a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset, southwest England.
