FOX AND HOUNDS [1], THE. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA; Arkansas, Missouri. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCDD. Christeson (1973) says the tune is quite rare. It is imitative of the rush of the hunt, particularly in the latter two parts, where it mimics the baying of hounds. "Fox and Hounds" was recorded for the Library of Congress by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph in the early 1940's from Ozark Mountain fiddlers.

Source for notated version: 'Stick' Osborn (St. Joseph, Missouri) [Christeson].

Printed sources: R.P. Christeson (Old Time Fiddlers Repertory, vol. 1), 1973; p. 107.
