It appears in Johnson's Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 6th (London, 1751), David Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (London, 1756), and James Aird's Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 3 (Glasgow, 1788, No. 520, p. 199). Fr. John Quinn finds the tune in Elias Howe's Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (Boston, 1880-1882) under the title "Miss Newcomb's Jig."
