GEORGE HOLLAND'S TUNE. AKA - "Loved His Wife as well as Anybody." American, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "George Holland's Tune" was in the repertory of farmer and fiddler William Lee "Jake" Phelps (1885-1977) of Pea Ridge, near Elkton, Holland County, southwest Kentucky. Phelps told collector Bruce Greene, who visited him in 1973, that African-American fiddler Holland himself had called the tune "Loved His Wife as well as Anybody." The reel is a version of the better-known "Sally Goodin." Phelps was also recorded by collector D.K. Wilgus and Yvonne Gregory in August, 1965.
