GIGUE ANGLAISE, LA (The English Jig). The melody was published by Neil Stewart in his A Select Collection of Scots, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1 (c. 1788) in his substantial section of French-titled tunes. The third strain incorporates the main theme of the Northumbrian air and dance tune "Weel May the Keel Row (The)", but the first two strains differ.
