GIGUE DES SUCRES. AKA - "Reel des sucres." French-Canadian, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. The two strains of "Gigue des sucres" are identical to the first two strains of the New England jig "Portland Fancy (1)," while Jean Duval notes melodic similarity with "Haymaker's Jig (1)." Allard, who lived, worked and played in the United States for many years, may have picked up the tune while in New England.
