GOLDEN STAR HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe or Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Golden Star Hornpipe" is a classic 19th century hornpipe, such as could be found in Ryan's Mammoth Collection or other of the Elias Howe publications. However, Portsmouth, southern Ohio, fiddler and instrument repairman biography:Jimmy Wheeler played the tune quite fast, so that any vestiges of a dotted rhythm were ironed out in the speed and performance. Some other musicians play the tune with more of the dotted rhythm. Wheeler's source for the tune is unknown.
