GRETNA GREEN [1]. AKA - "Grackney Green." English, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was entered into the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of biography:John Roose (Manchester, England) as "Grackney Green," but also appears in an anonymous latter-19th century Yorkshire collection as "Gretna Green." Gretna Green is a village in Scotland, just over the Border, and was, in former times, a prime destination for eloping English couples due to the more lenient marriage laws. See note for "annotation:English Bring to Gratney Green the Lasses that Hae Siller (The)" for more on Gretna Green.
