HOP JIG [1]. AKA and see "Irish Dance (1)." Irish, Slip or Hop Jig (9/8 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Fr. John Quinn finds the tune was first printed by Henry Hudson as an untitled "Irish Dance" in his music column in the periodical The Citizen, of Dublin Monthly Magazine (1841). However, Hudson set the tune in 3/4 time and not the usual 9/8 dance melody time. Fr. Quinn notes a resemblance in the first strain with "Thro' the Muir at Night and the other "Camstroden's Rant" family of tunes, although the second strain differs.
