I'M GOING TO FEAST AT THE WELCOME TABLE. Old-Time. GDgd tuning (fiddle). A solo fiddle piece played by Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky fiddler W.H. "Bill" Stepp, recorded in 1937 by the Lomax's for the Library of Congress. A gospel song called "I'm going to feast at the welcome table" was recorded on the same trip by the Lomax's from the singing of Mrs. Nell Hampton, a blind ballad singer and a neighbor and contemporary of Stepp's, and sister to Mae Puckett. The song was also recorded in the field in Cherry Brook, Nova Scotia, by Helen Creighton in 1943, from the singing of William Riley and Cassie Downey (Library of Congress AFS 07172 B03).
