INDIAN MELODY (THE). Irish, Reel. The melody appears in Book 2 (p. 156)[1] of the mid-19th century music manuscripts of Church of Ireland cleric and uilleann piper wikipedia:James_Goodman_(musicologist) as "The Indian Melody." Goodman himself obtained the tune from a manuscript provided him by Dublin bookseller John O'Daly, according to Hugh and Lisa Shields[2]. County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894) entered it into Book 3 of his c. 1883 music manuscript collection under the title "Dashing White Sergeant (2) (The)."
