IRISH VAUXHALL, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. The melody was first printed by London publishers John Johnson, in his Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 5 (1750) and David Rutherford in his Choice Collection of Sixty of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (1750). Rutherford included the tune in his Compleat Collection of 200 Country Dances, vol. 2 (London, 1760), followed by Charles and Samuel Thompson in their 1765 country dance volume. A version was penned by London musician Thomas Hammersley into his 1790 music manuscript copybook, and another included in the c. 1850 music manuscript collection of Manchester, England, musician biography:John Roose.
